Minimum specs for PC Outreach computers

The goal of PC Outreach is to get a relatively modern, well-equipped computer into the homes of people who can put it to good use.  We know that most of the computers donated to PC Outreach will be nearing retirement age, but there are computers which are simply too antiquated to be rehabilitated for reuse.  We appreciate the good intentions of anyone who would donate a computer to the project, but our first priority is to the "customer", the individual or family which will receive and use the machine.  If the computer is too old, too slow or incapable of basic computing functions, it may cause more frustration than benefit.

Therefore, we have established "minimum specs" for the computers and components we take as donations.  They are:

For CPUs (the main "box" of the computer that everything plugs into):

At least Pentium or its equivalent in speed.

For monitors (the "TV" screen):

At least 15" diagonal measurement

NOTE: We gladly accept "CPUs" without monitors.  Many times an individual or company will keep its monitors but upgrade its CPUs.  PC Outreach has a substantial supply of monitors to match with donated CPUs.

For components (these specs apply to components donated separately.  A Pentium machine would be a welcome donation even if some of its components did not meet these specs):

Hard drive -- At least 2 GB (gigabytes)

Modem -- not less than 56k speed

RAM -- 16 MB sticks or larger

If you have a computer which meets SOME, but not ALL, of these specifications, please feel free to contact us.  We make use of anything that will help us meet our goal of providing good computers to people who need them.
