Computers

PC Outreach computers are fully functional Pentium level IBM-compatible machines that have modest processing power and storage capacity.  While PC Outreach computers will never be lightning fast gaming or "CAD/CAM" machines, they are capable of performing word processing, spreadsheet analysis, checkbook maintenance, basic desktop publishing, Internet browsing and email.  Informal surveys suggest that these functions make up more than 90% of what most people use a computer to do.

PC Outreach computers will generally contain:

Pentium processor (90-233 mhz)

CD-ROM drive

64 MB RAM

floppy disk drive

2-10 GB hard disk drive 56k modem
USB ports sound card
14-15" color monitor mouse
Windows 98SE keyboard
speakers
OpenOffice office suite (MS Office-compatible word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, drawing)
AVG anti-virus software
Microsoft games bundled w/OS
Misc freeware games
AOL Instant Messenger
Adobe Acrobat Reader

PC Outreach computers are thoroughly bench-tested prior to distribution.  PC Outreach computers have had all available patches and security and other updates installed in the operating system.  PC Outreach computers come with DirectX 8.x, Media Player 9.x , Internet Explorer 6.x and Java plug-in preinstalled.
